“Our vast motherland is inherently & essentially peace loving and respectful of every caste, creed, religion and celebrates communal harmony,” Sinha, 69, posted on Twitter.

Sinha said Aamir starrer “PK” would not have been such a success if India was intolerant. “‘PK’, where Hindu Gods & Goddess were made fun of in no uncertain terms would not have seen such success if India was intolerant.”

Aamir has received flak from political parties and film industry colleagues like Anupam Kher, Raveena Tandon, Ramgopal Varma and Paresh Rawal over his remarks.

The actor followed up his interview with a statement on Wednesday, saying he and his family did not have any intention of leaving the country and he was a proud Indian.

“First let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. I stand by everything that I have said in my interview’.
