Parul University Founder Arrested on Rape Charges In Gujarat


Vadodara: Jayesh Patel, a suspended BJP leader and founder-president of the privately-owned Parul University located at Waghodia in Gujarat, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old nursing student of his institute.

The Vadodara rural police arrested him from Asodar near Anand on Tuesday. He was absconding since he was booked for the alleged rape of a nursing student.

On June 20, the woman rector of the girls’ hostel of Parul University was arrested in connection with the rape case. “54-year-old Bhavna Chauhan was arrested from Unjha town in Mehsana district and has been brought to Vadodara,” district police had said in a statement.

In the FIR, the complainant said she was raped by Patel at his residence, located near the girls’ hostel, after Bhavna took her there.The victim also accused Bhavna of abetting the crime.

She also alleged that Patel threatened to expel her from the institute and fail her in the nursing course if she disclosed the incident to anyone, police said.
