Parliamentary panel recommends doubling of MP’s salary

New Delhi: An increase in the salary of lawmakers of the country by almost double has been recommended by a Parliamentary panel which also recommended an increase in the pension of the former MPs by almost 75%. A joint committee has submitted its recommendations to the government and has also proposed an automatic pay revision mechanism for parliamentarians like that of pay commission for government employees.

According to sources, nearly 60 recommendations have been made by the panel. The committee has reasoned that the last revision of MPs salary happened in 2010 and they don’t get any dearness allowance like that of the government employees.

Presently, sitting MPs get a monthly salary of 50,000 and the panel has also recommended a daily allowance of Rs 2,000 should also be increased. The allowance is granted to the MPs for attending the house  during parliament sessions.
