“Ready to give up ‘Minister-ship’ for bail”


Kolkata: Madan Mitra's lawyer has put up a point saying that he is ready to give up his post of being the State Transport Minister in order to get the much anticipated bail. It is heard that IPC 409 is not applicable to Madan Mitra for which he has been booked. Raising this question Kapil Sibbal, Kabir Shankar Roy and Niladri Bhattacharya. However, the CBI lawyer has opposed the plea and have raised questions in connection to his bail plea.

Earlier huge pandemonium was reported in the courtroom of Calcutta High Court on Thursday. The incident happened when Judge Nishita Mathre and Asha Arora were hearing the bail plea of the State Transport Minister, Madan Mitra. They said that they could not hear the arguments and asked to vacate the court room. A glass pane was reported to have been broken forcing the stoppage of the hearing even . Congress leader and well known lawyer Kapil Sibal had arrived in the city to raise the argument in favour of Madan Mitra's bail on thursday. The situation occurred at the time of hearing and the court proceedings had to be stopped. After a span of 8 minutes, the hearing restarted in the courtroom behind closed doors. According to sources, Kapil Sibal will be raising arguments in favour of Madan's bail at least at the time of the Durga Puja. The police have beefed up security in the court premise to avoid and unwanted situation further.
