Santipur: Police detained three persons on Tuesday in connection with the lynching of a 27-year-old who was among motorbike-borne Trinamool supporters on an alleged mission to capture a polling booth in Santipur on Monday.
Tribal people surrounded Sanjit Pramanik, a job seeker, and others in the group and shot arrows and beat them up. Although Sanjit tried to flee, he was captured by the villagers and lynched.
The violence occurred near a polling booth at Babla Sardarpara Primary School in Santipur.
The police refused to disclose the identity as well as the political affiliation of those detained. The law enforcers have launched an investigation, but are yet to start a suo motu murder case.
The deceased man’s neighbours and a section of local Trinamool activists were apparently annoyed with the way the MLA had used a large section of youths for alleged electoral malpractice.
