Purulia: District Magistrate of Purulia has ordered a recount of votes at Raghunathpur-I Zilla-Parishad seats of Purulia on Sunday following a complaint by Trinamool that the BJP nominee won through manipulation of the counting process.
“We have received a complaint from the Trinamool candidate about manipulation in the counting process. The local block development officer also lodged an FIR against the BJP candidate for forcing him to issue the winning certificate before the counting process was completed,” district magistrate Alokesh Prasad Roy said on Saturday.
The BJP’s Ganesh Singh won by 550 votes, defeating Trinamool’s Anathbandhu Maji. The BJP said it would boycott the recounting and move court against the decision. The BJP won 10 of the 38 Purulia zilla parishad seats, the Congress three and the rest went to the ruling Trinamool.
“The ruling party is embarrassed at its loss and now they are playing these tricks,” said Vidyasagar Chakraborty, the BJP president in Purulia.
