Pak Espionage Case: One More Accused Detained In Rajasthan

Jaipur: After Mehmood Akhtar, a Pakistan High Commission staffer, was declared persona non-grata for indulging in espionage on Thursday, a Jodhpur-based man was detained by the Rajasthan Police in the case. Shoaib, the arrested man, is now set to be brought to Delhi.

Earlier in the day, Delhi court remanded two persons, also residents of Rajasthan, to 12 days of custody for allegedly passing on sensitive information to Akhtar. Identified as Maulana Ramzan and Subhash Jangir, the two were arrested by the crime branch on Thursday.

Delhi Police claimed the duo were involved in the espionage ring in which Akhtar, described as the kingpin of a spy ring working for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, was detained by police for alleged possession of sensitive defence documents.

Akhtar, who worked in the visa section of the High Commission and has diplomatic immunity, was released after prolonged questioning as he enjoyed diplomatic immunity, police said. He has been given 48 hours to leave the country.
