Peshawar: At least 16 Afghanistan-based militants were killed in a fierce exchange of gun battle with the security forces on a check-post in Pakistan’s Kurram tribal region on Thursday.
The security forces retaliated after being attacked by the militants, forcing them to retreat.
During a subsequent search operation, the security forces also recovered the bodies of 12 attackers from the area.
Kurram Tribal Agency is one of the most sensitive tribal areas located in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and it borders three Afghan provinces.
At one point, it was one of the key routes for militant movement across the border.
It is adjacent to North Waziristan region where the operation Zarb-i-Azb is in progress against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and other militant groups.
