Srinagar: A Pakistani truck driver and two of his local contacts from Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri District were arrested by police for carrying narcotics, as a result of which trade across the Line of Control (LoC).
According to police, the driver who has been identified as Anayat Hussain, is a resident of Muzaffarabad was arrested after narcotic substances were recovered from him on Friday.
The local businessman Zahoor Ahmad Malla, who was to receive the consignment, has also been taken into custody. Police have registered a case under Section 8/21 of NDPS Act against both the accused and has stated investigations. The seized materials have been sent to Forensic science laboratory for a detailed examination.
22 vehicles which came from PoK are stranded at Salamabad facilitation centre in Uri while 29 Indian Trucks are held up in Chakoti on the other side of the border. The PoK officials have not allowed Indian Trucks and drivers to return until the accused driver is released on bail and sent back home.
