New Delhi: Third seed and home favourite PV Sindhu displayed nerves of steel as she defeated the top seed Carolina Marin of Spain in straight games 21-19, 21-16 in the final to win India Open Super Series 2017 title at the packed Siri Fort Sports Complex on Sunday.
Sindhu took 47 minutes to win her maiden home super series crown.
The Rio Olympic Silver medalist Sindhu got off the blocks early as she took a crucial 5-1 lead in the first game. Marin fought back hard but Sindhu (11-9) managed to hold her lead at the mid break.
The Spaniard came back strongly after the change of ends to finally take a one-point lead at 18-17 but Sindhu was in no mood to give up as she sealed the first game 21-19 in her favour.
The fiery Sindhu raced to a 4-0 lead in the second game against Marin. The lanky Indian held her nerves as she kept a healthy five-point lead, with the scoreline reading 15-10, against the World No 3. Sindhu finally won the second game 21-16 to clinch the title.
