New Delhi:Total storage capacity available with FCI for storage of foodgrains as on 31st October, 2015 is 366.87 Lakh MT. New storage godowns are being constructed with Plan funds in Plan Scheme and also with the help of private investors in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. This information was given by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister said that under Plan Scheme, which is focussed on the North Eastern States, a capacity of 19170 MTs has been constructed in Assam in 2015-16 till 31/10/2015. Following state-wise capacities are under construction in the current year:-
