OROP protesters being evicted from Jantar Mantar

New Delhi: In an attempt to secure the National Capital ahead of the Independence Day, Police on Friday morning began the eviction process of various groups on protest at Jantar Mantar where the protests were being held.

Among those protesting at the Jantar Mantar are a group of retired Servicemen who has been demanding ‘One Rank, One Pension’ or OROP.

Former military chiefs have wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee to Urgently intervene into the matter as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces saying that delay into the matter would severely damage the  officer-Jawan relationship.

In the letter to President Mukherjee, former Army Chief General SF Rodrigues, and former navy chiefs, Admirals L Ramdas, Arun Prakash and Sureesh Mehta have written, “Soldiers, like flags and anthems, are emblematic of a nation's pride and honor. The very fact that the nation's military veterans have had to take resort to agitating methods and that the government could tolerate their denigration or humiliation has come as a rude shock to all of us.”
