Kolkata: The prices of onions may see a steep rise in the State. The Onion businessmen have said that the prices of the onions have already gone up to Rs 60 and may rise further in the coming days.
West Bengal has to depend mainly on Andhra Pradesh and Nashik for Onions. There has been deficiency in the import of Onions into the state due to which the prices have shot up.
According to Secretary of Maniktala Market Businessmen Organization, the Chief Minister knows about the situation and will be discussing the issue with the centre. Government will also look to increase the production of Onion in the state. The Chief Minister has assured that the Government will try to increase the production of onions in Siliguri, Bankura, Birbhum which will decrease the rise in the onion price.
