Oil Ministry suspends ONGC Technical Director

New Delhi: ONGC Technical Director Shashi Shankar was suspended by the Oil Ministry on Tuesday over allegations of irregularities.

In a letter to the Oil and Natural Gas Corp. the ministry wrote that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against Shanker.

“The competent authority in exercise of the powers conferred under ONGC Conduct, Discipline and Appeal Rules, 1994, has placed Shashi Shankar, Director (T&FS) ONGC, under suspension with immediate effect,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

Mr. Shankar, who turns 54 on Monday, is the youngest director on the board of the company. He was appointed Director (Technical and Field Services) on February 1 last year.

As per the sources allegations of tender irregularities has been leveled against him. The Vigilance Department is probing the matter further.
