Kohima: Security forces on Sunday arrested Max Asukomi, self-styled finance secretary of Naga rebel outfit NSCN (K) from a locality in Dimapur, Nagaland.
Two more NSCN(K) cadres – identified as Asheto Rochelle and Isato Aye – were also picked up from two other locations in Dimapur on Sunday. A press release issued by the Assam Rifles PRO in Kohima said the three, who were residents of Zunheboto district, were staying in Dimapur for carrying out extortion.
“Apprehension of these cadres, particularly Max Asukomi, will be a major setback to the financial operations of NSCN(K) in Dimapur and adjoining areas,” the Assam Rifles press release said. The NSCN(K), which had signed a ceasefire agreement with the government of India in 2001, had pulled out of it in March 2015 and returned to the path of violence.
At least 20 security personnel were killed in three different attacks by the NSCN(K) last year, prompting the government to once again declare it as an unlawful organization and launch fresh operations against it.
