NRC Row: Black Day Protest In Naihati


Naihati: As the Trinamool Congress (TMC) observed “black day”across West Bengal on Saturday to protest against the detention and “manhandling” of its leaders at the Silchar airport in Assam on Thursday. Naihati in North 24 Paraganas included in the list where protest rallies were observed.

Following the directive of Partha Bhowmik, the TMC MLA of Naihati and Naiati municipality chairman Ashok Chatterjee this ‘Black day’ procession was completed. Thousands of TMC activists protested against the NRC issue in Naihati on Saturday afternoon. The TMC councilors of different wards of Naihati municipality took part in this movement too.

Ashok Chatterjee, the chairman of Naihati municipality said, “In Assam, the BJP, in the name of NRC draft has planned to remove the names of 4 million people from the voters list. We were involved in the protest following the direction of our leader. This tyranny of BJP can not be accepted in Bengal. The non-political people of Naihati will hold a rally tomorrow dawn to demand the cancellation of the NRC by the BJP.”
