Bhopal: Mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ programme, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is all set to hold a ‘Dal Pe Charcha’ across Madhya Pradesh on October 26 to protest the soaring prices of pulses.
Toor daal would be cooked on various roundabouts of cities across the state and people would discuss the promised “acche din” together, CPI(M) leader Badal Saroj said, IANS reported. Price of dal has been heading northwards over the last few months, leading to public outrage from different quarters. Prices rose to a record high of Rs 210 per kg sending the government into fire fighting mode. About 36,000 tonnes of pulses have been recovered from hoarders and this will be pushed into the market to cool prices.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has blamed the states for not doing enough to crack down on hoarders and black marketeers. Jaitley said 5,000 tonnes of imported pulses have already arrived and are being distributed to the states and another 3,000 tonnes are on the way.
