Kolkata: Following the latest MET office prediction Kolkata and parts of Bengal are witnessing rain on Friday evening. The pace of wind is average 64 km.
Nor’wester and thundershower have took many lives in previous months. Kolkata witnessed eight Nor’wester in April which more than normal. So total number of Nor’wester stands nine till now. Weather officials said, it is not normal at this time.
Friday’s latest satellite observations indicate that Thundersquall with wind speed exceeding 50 kmph accompanied with lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to affect Howrah, Hooghly, East-Midnapore, North 24 Pargana, South 24 Pargana including Kolkata during next 2-3 hours on Friday.
Nor’wester may hit the gangetic Bengal in the evening. Scattered rain may hit parts of Kolkata. Several parts of Bengal witnessed rain on Friday.
In view of the warnings issued by the weather office, the district administrations have alerted all the blocks, asking them to take precautionary measures so that such incidents can be averted. The villagers in various blocks have been asked not to work out on the field during a thundershower.
