North Bengal: As the city of joy has virtually turned into a furnace owing to the severe heat wave lashing for days, a thunder storm is likely to brew imparting great relief to the people of Kolkata.
Some areas in North Bengal suffered damage due to the high intensity hailstorm and cyclone. A cyclonic circulation, that could start developing over Jharkhand from Thursday, could contribute to the conditions. The thunderstorm was likely to hit Kolkata either on March 30 or 31, said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). A thunderstorm had lashed Kolkata last Sunday.
According to RMC director, Conditions could soon turn favourable for a thunderstorm. We already have enough moisture flowing in from the Bay of Bengal. Two other factors could raise the chances of a storm. One is the rising heat and the second is a cyclonic circulation that is set to form over Jharkhand on Thursday. It will take some time for the factors to help build the ideal conditions. We expect a thundershower on Friday or Saturday.
The weatherman on Thursday forecast moderate thunderstorm with lightning to affect some areas in Gangetic West Bengal, while the northern districts of the state are likely to be lashed by heavy rains. The districts of Gangetic West Bengal are likely to receive moderate thunderstorm till Friday evening.
These districts in south Bengal are likely to remain cloudy with one or two showers in the following three days, after which precipitation level is likely to get higher, the weatherman said.
