Kolkata: With the blame-game on over the Bagri market fire incident, several
political leaders have visited the site of the incident on Sunday.
However, almost more than a day have passed by and with the fire still on, BJP
party leaders were seen present in the spot. The other opposition parties, on the
other hand, have attacked and accused the government for the Bagri incident.
Mayor and Fire service minister Sovan Chatterjee, Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar,
Fire Service DG Jagmohan rushed to the area several times to take stock of the
situation. The CM, though away on a foreign tour, is continously monitoring the
Bagri market falls under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area. Soon after
getting the news, local MP Sudip Banerjee rushed to the area. Bowbazar MLA Naina
Banerjee and Jorasanko MLA Smita Bakshi also rushed to the spot. Naina Banerjee
said, “That does not fall under my Vidhan Sabha area. But still I could not sit at
home after hearing about such a major fire incident. I have rushed to the area.”
After the fire broke out, BJP leaders Mukul Roy and Rahul Sinha visited the area.
It has been alleged that no other opposition leaders were present. CPM leader Sujan
Chakraborty, MLA Tanmay Bhattacharya and Pradesh Congress president Adhir Chowdhury
attacked the government through press notes. State BJP president Dilip Ghosh also
falls in this list.
A few members from the Congress party rushed to the area. They also helped like the
TMC workers. They helped the fire service men. They made arrangements for drinking
water and food.
