Kolkata: The state government wants to know the condition of all the bridges in the state. In a meeting between the PWD officers and minister, it was decided that the PWD officers will have to inspect the condition of all the bridges in the state.

Arup Biswas instructed officers that all the bridges which fall under the purview of the PWD department will have to be inspected. Not a single bridge should be left out. Biswas said that there should not be a repeat of the Majerhaat bridge case, it should be taken as a lesson.

According to Nabanna, the minister strictly said that no negligence will be tolerated. The girder and ball-bearing of old bridges must be monitored regularly. A report will also have to be submitted.

A planning for creating a road at Majerhat is underway between PWD department and
Railways. A report has been submitted to the minister on the present condition of the bridges. Questions are being raised on the role of PWD after the Majherhat bridge collapse.
