Govt declares 7 days of National Mourning on Kalam’s Death


New Delhi: Paying respect to the wishes of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who passed away on Monday while delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong, the Govt has declared 7 days of National Mourning. However, no confirmation has been made on the part of declaring a National Holiday on the sad demise of the ‘Missile Man’ of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee has expressed their condolences over the former President’s death.

In his mourning speech Prime Minister Modi said, “The country has lost its guide. His death is a great loss to the field of science across the globe.Education and teaching were his main aims. Even during his final moments, he was delivering a lecture as a teacher.”

On the Other hand President Pranab Mukherjee in his official statement over the demise of the former President has said, “ I am deeply saddened by the demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. He is and will be known as the People’s President.”

Veteran BJP Leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani said, “I can’t think of a person who combines the quality of simplicity and selfless service to the country the way Dr Kalam did.”
