New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday ruled in favour of the Ujjain Mahakaleshwar temple board expert committee and allowed the deity to be worshipped with RO water instead of the now practiced use of oil products and milk.
The committee had recommended the use of RO water citing shrinking of the deity – the Shivlinga – due to the use of oil products and milk.
Mahakal Temple Committee had on Thursday held a meeting to discuss the temple’s stand in the SC. As per the recommendation of the committee, an RO plant will be set up in the temple campus and followers will be asked to use the same water for worshiping the deity.
The committee’s recommendations were based on observations by the archaeological department which had cited polluted water as one of the prime causes behind of shrinking of the deity. The SC ruling is likely to be brought into practice with immediate effect.
