New Delhi: Nitish Kumar met President Pranab Mukherjee to convey the support of 130 MLAs. Kumar, who was accompanied by JD(U) President Sharad Yadav, RJD leader Lalu Prasad and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, took the 130 MLAs to the President’s House to show that he enjoys majority support in the state Assembly. “The President heard all the issues and at the end said that we will look into the matter,” Kumar said when asked about Mukherjee’s reaction. Meanwhile, in an apparent setback to Nitish Kumar, the Patna High Court on February 11, virtually stayed his recognition as the leader of the JD(U) Legislature Party in place of Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
“We intend to examine the legal implication of the letter issued by in-charge Secretary of Assembly (recognising Nitish Kumar as leader of JD(U) Legislature Party) so that the letter should have no legal consequences for a decision by the Governor,” a HC bench said in its order on February 11. The court said it would hear the matter againt.The division bench comprising Chief Justice L N Reddy and Justice Vikash Jain gave the direction on a PIL filed by JD(U) MLA Rajeshwar Raj, who is siding with Manjhi.
