English bazaar: The state’s ruling party Trinamool has been succeeded by inducting English Bazar MLA Nihar Ranjan Ghosh into fold as per condition that they have to remove Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury from the post of the chairman of English Bazar Municipality. Now number of MLAs has been increased unto 218 for TMC.
Nihar Ranjan Ghosh, was the person who had fought in the last Bengal state Assembly polls as Congress-CPM backed independent candidate and had defeated heavyweight Krishnendu Chowdhury. There is a long and bitter tussle within TMC in the district due to Krishnendu Vs Sabitri Mitra. At last, the last straw has been drawn through the induction of Nihar ranjan Ghosh. According to the sources, Nihar will take over district leadership as soon as possible when he will come to Kolkata.
According to the anti-Krishnendu lobby he has been in a tight spot now. More so because of his much known discord with another Trinamool leader from the district, Sabitri Mitra, which the ruling party considers a major reason for its dismal performance in Malda in the last Assembly polls.
For past few months Trinamool was constantly persuading MLA Ghosh to join the party but he was trying to resist the move. But Nihar, who is also a councillor of English Bazar Municipality, finally gave in after Trinamool leadership gave a commitment that Krishnenedu Narayan would be removed from the chairmanship.
Despite grabbing of the Malda Zila Parishad last month through defection from the Congress and the Left, the ruling party was falling short by single vote to take total control of the Zila Parishad’s standing committees. The induction of Nihar Ranjan Ghosh gave them ample opportunity in this context.
