Newly Indian Adnan Sami Tweets ‘Jai Hind’ With Tricolour


New Delhi: Noted singer Adnan Sami was granted the Indian citizenship on Friday following his request to the Centre to legalise his status in the country on humanitarian grounds. “I am thankful to the government of India for this precious and beautiful gift and there can’t be a more beautiful day than January 1 (to get it),” Sami, who is of Pakistani origin, said.

Born in Britain and hitherto a Canadian citizen, Sami has been living in India on a visa since March 2001. He was last given a visa extension in October last year.

Adnan Sami took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the citizenship and wrote, “My Profound thanks to Honourable Prime Minister @narendramodi ji for approving my Indian Citizenship.A New birth!”
