Kolkata: The huge success of the Kanyashree Scheme has prompted the State Government to open a university for women and name it after the scheme.
This idea came from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose brainchild the scheme was too. The university, according to officials of the State Education Department, will be situated in Nadia district.
This would be the second university in Bengal exclusively for women, the first one being Diamond Harbour Women’s University in South 24 Parganas district. This university too was established by the Trinamool Congress Government and also happens to be the first women’s university in eastern India.
