Patna: The BJP-led NDA dealt a huge setback to ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress-NCP ‘secular’ alliance by winning 14 out of 24 Legislative council seats, the results for which were announced on Friday.
While the NDA won 14 seats, Nitish Kumar-led alliance managed to win just 9 of the 24 seats in the state.
An independent candidate Ritlal Yadav, who is lodged in Beur jail, also won the Patna seat. Yadav, a criminal-turned-politician, is considered close to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Today’s results are a big blow to the dreams of RJD, JD(U), Congress leaders to come together in Bihar with an aim to defeat Narendra Modi-led BJP.
The NDA was the first to open the account in the Council polls touted as ‘semi-final’ before the crucial Assembly elections scheduled later this year registering a win from Saran constituency where BJP candidate Sachidananda Rai defeated his rivals.
