New Delhi: Nazim Zaidi on Sunday will be assuming charge as the Chief Election Commissioner of India taking over the reins from H.S. Brahma, who retired yesterday.
He will be the sole member of the three member commission until the two vacant spaces are filled up by the government.
He will be the Chief Election Commissioner till July 2017 when he turns 65. He is an IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre of 1976 batch.
Zaidi has served as the Permanent representative of India on the Council of ICAO from November 2005-October 2008. He has also served as the Director General of Civil Aviation and retired from the government service as the civil aviation secretary on July 31 2012.
