Washington: Navy officials are failing to see the funny side of the efforts of a mischievous pilot who drew enormous penises in the sky above Washington this week.
The cheeky image which was made by his fighter jet’s exhaust system appeared over Okanogan County, in Washington on Thursday.
Nearby Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is home to the force’s fleet of EA-18G Growlers electronic warfare aircraft.
“After it made the circles at the bottom, I knew what it was and started laughing,” said local resident Ramone Duran.
“It was pretty funny to see that. You don’t expect to see something like that.” However, the pilot’s bosses in the US Navy certainly do not see the funny side.
Military leaders were quickly forced to apologise when the pilot’s penis stunt hit the local news.
Officials from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington released a statement admitting one of their aircraft was involved after a local mother contacted a news station to complain.
She was reportedly worried the imagery could have a negative impact on her young children.
“The Navy holds its aircrew to the highest standards and we find this absolutely unacceptable, of zero training value and we are holding the crew accountable,” the statement said.
