Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a bid to create a pan-India anti-BJP front, is likely to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday.

As per a report, finding a common Presidential candidate will be top of Mamata Banerjee’s agenda for the meetings. Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi has met leaders of several parties in the last few weeks to discuss the possibility of a joint candidate for the upcoming presidential polls.

A source told Indian Express that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had also come to Delhi five years ago to try to get common consensus on second presidential term for APJ Abdul Kalam. The source said ”Mamata Banerjee was unable to get what she wanted last time, this time she is less vocal and more careful”. The source also added ”Mamata Banerjee’s meeting with Sonia Gandhi is important as it will tell us about Congress’ stand on the issue”.

The report states that TMC is trying to get other opposition parties on a common platform against the BJP. Sources told The Indian Express that AAP fits into Mamata Banerjee’s plan as it is in power in Delhi and also the main opposition party in Punjab.
Sources said Arvind Kejriwal sought a meeting with Mamata Banerjee after losing the assembly elections in Goa and Punjab. The two Chief Ministers are likely to discuss federal politics and alleged interference by governors, issues which both the leaders have been vocal about.

Arvind Kejriwal had first invited Mamata Banerjee to share the dais after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move to demonetise high-value currency notes last year.
