Nagrota Attack: Army Troops Resume Combing Operation

Jammu: With first break of the dawn on Wednesday, army troops resumed combing operation within and outside the premises of 166 Medium Regiment where a group of terrorists in police uniform had struck a day earlier killing seven army men including two Majors.

In view of forests, the entire area outside the army unit was sealed by army troops from entry point to Nagrota and Ban Toll plaza involving area within a radius of nearly five kms. Before calling off the operation, this is being done to sanitize the entire area so as to rule out possibility of the presence of any other terrorist still hiding in the area, sources said.

The army had on Tuesday killed three terrorists who in police uniform entered the army unit throwing grenades and resorting to indiscriminate fire from assault rifles. However, some reports suggested that there were four terrorists involved in the attack.

Since morning, there has been no contact with any terrorist. However, troops continue patrol areas around the army unit to check possibility of terrorist, if any, escaping from the area.

The army chief General Dalbir Singh is also likely to visit 16 Corps headquarters to take stock of the situation and to pay homage to the martyrs during the wreath laying ceremony.

Meanwhile,  one of the seventh army man martyred in Tuesday’s terror attack has been identified by the army as Naik Chittranjan Debbarma, 37, of West Tripura. He is survived by his wife Namita Debbarma and two children, aged 11 and 7 years.
