Uttarpara: A young scientist from Hooghly working in Paris for four years was found dead in a rented accommodation there early on Monday.
Snigdhyadip Dey, a 37-year-old researcher and scientist at the Ecole Normale Superieure, had last spoken to his family back home on Saturday on his way back to the apartment from the laboratory where he worked.
The circumstances of his death are unclear and the family is in touch with the ministry of external affairs in Delhi for more information, sources said.
“He would call us and his wife in Chinsurah after coming out of the lab, and he would take the Metro to go home between 11 to 11.30pm every day. On Saturday also, it was around that time (7-7.30pm in Paris) when we received his call. He was fine and he told us to take care of our health,” father Sisir Dey, a retired engineer, said.
The faculty at the institute received a mail on Monday evening from the director of the institute of biology, informing them about Snigdhadip’s death, an official told Metro from Paris. “I am of course aware of the death of Dey Snigdhadip. The circumstances of his death have not yet been communicated to us by the police,” Antoine Triller, director, Institut de Biologie de l’ENS (IBENS), said in an email.
