Muzaffarnagar: Communal tension gripped Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar after unknown men hurled two bombs at a mosque on Tuesday night. The Imam and half a dozen men in the mosque sustained injury in the resulting blast.
Already tense following the murder of a youth in village Bhumma under Meerapur police station of Muzaffarnagar, a blast in a mosque in the same area in western Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night has led to communal tension in the district.
However, some eyewitnesses were quoted as saying to the police that the bomb was kept there in the mosque. That it could be the handiwork of a hooligan was a larger possibility because the police have recovered a third crude live bomb from the mosque.
It was only on Monday night that one Satveer Kashyap was shot dead in the same area. Some people had alleged that the killers had run away for their shelter towards the same mosque. While there were some policemen deployed there at the time of the incident to maintain law and order in the month of Ramzan, they had escaped from there soon after the murder of Kashyap.
