Muslim girl bags the Gita award at Mumbai


Mumbai: India is a land of secularism. The statement gets absolutely justified when Mariyan Asif Siddiqui, a class VI student surprised the entire nation by winning first prize in an inter-school Bhagwad Gita competition. Mariyan explained the teachings of the holy book in the best possible manner and claimed her prize.

More than 195 schools and 4,500 students participated in the tough contest where Mariyan rose to the occasion making her parents proud. The’Shrimad Bhagwad Gita Champion League’ contest was organized by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON).

Mariyan was always interested in studying different religions and learnt a lot about the teachings of life from the holy book. The 12-year old won the prize on March 15 inspiring a lot of people amidst disturbances in the communal fabric in our society.
