Mumbai Police Commissioner’s name crops up in Lalit Modi issue


Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria’s name has cropped up in the Lalit Modi issue. A footage which has come into the hands of the media has shown Mumbai Police Commissioner meeting the former IPL chief at London in 2014.

lalit2-500x275With his name cropping up in the Lalit Modi issue, Mumbai police Commissioner has come out to defend himself on the issue. Working on damage control he said that he had gone to London to attend a Seminar where Lalit Modi’s lawyer told him that Modi wants to meet him. Maria came to know that he wants to speak to him regarding the risks on his life. He has accepted of meeting Lalit Modi for 15 minutes. During the meeting Lalit told the Mumbai Police Commissioner, “A group of miscreants who are associated with Mumbai underworld are trying to kill me.”

He told Modi that the Mumbai Police won’t be able to act in London. He also advised him to file a written complaint. He also claimed that he have not spoken to Modi on the issue after that.

Modi has already been asked by the Enforcement Directorate to return to the country and face interrogation within 9 July. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s name has already cropped up on the issue. Now the addition of Mumbai Police Commissioner’s name in the issue will only add more oil to fire.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also reportedly questioned Maria over his meeting with Lalit Modi at London.
