Mumbai: “In first, the FIR is registered against a suspect and then he is arrested. Saeed and others nominated in the FIRs will also be arrested subsequently… So these suspects will also be arrested very soon,” he further said.
According to a PTI report citing a source in the Imran Khan government, the police department is waiting for a final green signal from ‘top’ to arrest Saeed, who is presently at his residence in Lahore’s Jauhar Town.
According to the report, Saeed could be arrested this week as the Pakistan government is keen on proving its sincerity to the international community in light of its imminent blacklisting by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). In June last, FATF placed Pakistan on a grey list of countries and drew up an action plan. A year down the lane, Pakistan has failed to meet the deliverables of the action plan.
“These suspects made assets from funds of terrorism financing. They held and used these assets to raise more funds for further terrorism financing. Hence, they committed multiple offences of terrorism financing and money laundering under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. They will be prosecuted in ATCs (Anti Terrorism Courts) for the commission of these offences,” the CTD further told PTI.
