Mukesh Ambani Announces ‘India Ka Smartphone’, JioPhone


Mumbai: Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani on Friday in the 40th AGM meet announced a 4G VoLTE feature phone made in India, by Indians, for Indians. It may cost a little over Rs 500 when it hits the shelves, although it would still be priced at under Rs 1,000.

Jio phone supports 22 Indian languages support, has a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, has built-in assistant, comes with Jio services. You can browse internet and make video calls using it.

From August 15, the JioPhone will come with free unlimited data. Ä similar quantity of data on any other operator’s network would cost up to Rs 5000 a monmth,”Ambani said, adding that the same will cost JioPhone users just Rs 153 a month. There will be a weekly plan of Rs 54 and a two-day plan of Rs 24 with all the same features.

Connectivity, data affordability and device affordability will remove the hurdles before millions of Indians from accessing data. He said there will be 10,000 Jio offices by September in every town and tehsil.

Ambani used the company’s AGM to announce that Reliance Jio now has over 125 million users, and had undertaken the largest migration of free to paid to customers with over 100 million paid customers.

India is now the number one country in the world in data consumption.

Reliance Jio has been creating records from day one.He claims the service has achieved 7 customers every second every single day since inception. It has seen the fastest adoption of any tech service, faster than Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype, in the world.

Data consumption in India has gone from 20 crore GB per month to 120GB per month. This is in contrast to prediscitons. Jio has now become the largest mobile video network in the world. India has overtaken US and China in mobile data usage.
