MP Farmers Protest: Modi Calls Senior Ministers For Meeting


New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh farmers protest: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting of senior ministers over the farmers protest in Madhya Pradesh in the wake of the killing of 6 farmers in Mandsaur.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari and Sushma Swaraj are attending the meeting.

The agitating farmers, who have been protesting for six days, want loan waivers and better prices for their crops.

The farmers also want to meet Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, according to the Indian Express.

District authorities imposed a curfew in Mandsaur on Tuesday evening after six farmers were killed and eight were wounded in two separate incidents of firing.

A judicial probe has been ordered to look into who fired at the protesting farmers. Bhupendra Singh, the Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh has said that the police may have fired in self-defence in one of the two incidents.

Bhupendra Singh had earlier said that police had not discharged their weapons, according to an Indian Express report.
