Mortar shelling kills youth in Jammu


Jammu: A youth was killed when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by targeting border out posts and border hamlets by resorting to firing and mortar shelling along the IB in Jammu district on Tuesday.  BSF troops retaliated resulting in exchange of fire, which was still going on when last reports came.

A BSF spokesman said, "Pakistani Rangers resorted to firing of small arms and mortar shells on BoPs along IB in Kanachak and Pargwal sectors of Jammu district from 0540 hours". They targeted 12 BoPs along IB in these sectors, he said. Pakistani rangers also shelled border hamlets in these sectors, a police officer said, adding that 22-year-old Sanjay Kumar was killed when a Pakistani shell exploded in Hamirpur Kona in Pargwal belt of Jammu.

Mortar shelling has also triggered panic among people living in Kanachak and Pargwal forward areas. There are reports that Pakistan has also fired on BoPs in R S Pura belt, they said.
