Darjeeling: Police and CRPF in a joint operation conducted raids in GJM leader Bimal Gurung’s residence in Patlebas on Thursday morning.
They broke locks and barged into the premises. Extensive searches were carried out.
A huge cache of explosive devices, bows and arrows, sharp weapons, firecrackers along with mobile phones were recovered. The unrest was reportedly fueled in aid of the armaments.
Huge sum of money was also seized. Recovery of radio sets, night-vision binoculars and walky-talky from a political party office has raised eyebrows.
GJM party office in Singmari and Kanchenjunga school are also under police siege.Roads to and fro Singmari have been blocked.
Police, CRPF have reportedly cordoned off the places. Darjeeling Police Super Akhilesh Chaturvedi and 2 IPS officers are heading the team.
GJM leader Karuna Gurung has been detained from Kurseong.
GJM Women Wing was supposed to carry out joint rallies on Wednesday.
