Kolkata: The Midnapore police nabbed one suspect on Tuesday in the mishap which took place at BJP’s Kisan rally on Monday.
The West Midnapore police super sealed the entire area of the mishap on Tuesday morning. The Additional-director general of police (ADG) also visited the area. After inspecting the area, he summoned those who were controlling the CCTV during the day of the rally.
The district police assured that the culprits will be arrested soon. He also informed that it would be seen whether those constructing the pandal had proper training to do it.
At least 91 were left injured after a portion of a tent collapsed followed by another collapse in the later hours of the day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped his speech midway on Monday to see the mishap unfolding in front of his eyes. He immediately instructed the Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel, who were standing behind him, to rush to their help. Later, another tent collapsed in the evening.
The possible reason for the collapse was overcrowding of the ground. The injured were rushed to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. The condition of a few injured are stated to be critical. PM Modi visited the hospital at the end of the day to hospital to meet and enquire about the health of those injured.
