Modi Likely to Hold Rally in Kolkata in Jan

kolkata: In an attempt at damage control after Amit Shah’s much-hyped Utthan Divas rally in Kolkata was called off following the Bihar poll debacle, the state BJP unit on Thursday announced the possibility of Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding a public rally in January to release declassified Netaji files.

BJP’s Bengal chief Rahul Sinha said, “We have suggested that the PM hold a rally in Bengal on January 12 or January 23.” Despite skipping the November 30 rally, Amit Shah will hold “seven rallies in December in Bengal”, said Sinha.

The party had decided to hold several rallies in the districts with 15,000-strong crowd in attendance, a senior BJP leader had said.

On Thursday, Sinha said, “Since the party decided that Amit ji will hold seven rallies in December, the November 30 rally was called off.”

Instead, Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP national general secretary in charge of Bengal, and national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh will be lead a ‘maha michhil’ from College Square to R R Avenue on November 30.
