Modi Interacts With IT Professionals Nationwide Including Kolkata


Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with IT professionals across the country on Wednesday, highlighting the significant contribution of the Information Technology(IT) industry. He also spoke about the talented workforce of the IT industry in showcasing to the world the spirit of Indian initiative and enterprise. More than 20,000 IT professionals from across West Bengal including Kolkata had the opportunity to witness the event LIVE from STPI venue in the city.

While Modi presided over the meeting at New Delhi’s JNL Stadium, it was attended by IT professionals connected from 12 to 15 interactive sites and around 490 broadcasting sites across the country. Interacting through video conference, PM Modi urged the IT professional to promote concerted efforts across the spectrum of IT players that would bring greater efficiency in the scale and scope of such socially oriented actions.

In order to take this message to a larger audience of IT professionals, the PM launched a mobile app and portal that would seek to bring about greater coordination of CSR activities and volunteering efforts from IT industry. Dr (Ms.) Hoy Deshmukh, Global Head, CSR; Mr Sunil Joseph, Lead Social & Volunteering Initiatives and Mr Suresh G. Menon, VP and GM – Eastern Region of representatives of Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) a STPI registered unit, interacted with the PM. Software Technology Parks of India or STPI is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Communication & Information Technology.

The interaction was regarding the TCS social initiatives focusing in the areas of Education, Skilling, Environment, Wellness & Health, Women empowerment, reservation of Heritage Sites, Working for the under privileged – Senior citizen, child girl and people coming from financially weak background. The representatives of other IT Companies across the country also interacted with the PM and shared their contribution towards CSR activities in the various areas.

A girl from a IT major based in Hyderabad said she loves Swachh Bharat Mission and strictly follows it in her personal life. “Gandhiji’s spectacles used as icon in Swachh Bharat Mission, but Modiji brings the concept there.”

After carefully listened the girl, the prime minister replied, “The spectacles and concept – both are derived from Bapu (Gandhiji)-Modi has nothing to do here.” “We are only clearing the sin by cleaning the dirt from our society. He (Gandhiji) won freedom from us, but could not clean dirt of our country. It is now our moral responsibility to clean the dirt from the road as well as the society.” PM added.

Apart from them, the officer in-charge and additional director of STPI Kolkata Manjit Nayak was also present at the TCS venue. The event was viewed LIVE through TN channel – DD National, video conference, NaMo App, Webcast and other online media widely by more than 20,000 IT professionals from Kolkata and other locations across West Bengal in coordination with STPI Kolkata.

The LIVE viewing facility of the interaction program was organised by STPI, Kolkata at its office in Salt Lake city, where number of incubation unit members have attended the programme.
