Piku Mukherjee: Pathankot incident costs lives of seven army and security personnel. Martyr’s list included Commonwealth Gold Medalist Hon. Capt. Fateh Singh (Retired) and IAF Garuda Commando Gursevak Singh. But in their funerals no central cabinet level minister including PM took the pain to heal their grieving families. Only Central Home Minister Rajnath Singh tried to maintain a face-value and tweeted, “Pained to know about the demise of Lt. Col. Niranjan of NSG during mopping out operations at Pathankot. The nation salutes his sacrifice.” So, the Modi Govt. ignored the martyrs! The issue is raised in Facebook.
NSG’s Lieutenant Colonel Niranjan was cremated at Palakkad. Kerala’s Chief Minister Omen Chandy was presented there with some of his cabinet colleagues. The same instance was seen in Punjab and Haryana also. But, nobody saw anywhere any sign or shadow of central ministers! In Face Book many users said, “It is shocking that nobody from the Centre attends those sombre ceremonies. PM Modi should send a minister as his representative.”
It is a fact that there is no rule that the Central ministers must present at the funeral of martyrs. But there is a question of tribute and statemanhood. Rulers always talk as if they are the sole custodian of country’s honour and the guardian of our armed forces. So, we saw those mourning-in-absence instances from them!
In this aspect, a retired Army officer said, “Modi fooled us promising One Rank One Pension before elections. What he later gave us is nothing. He has time to attend Yoga camps. But no time even to send a minister to the funeral of martyrs.”
In the context of the last post of the Pathankot martyrs, it is to be said that: Time for the PM Modi and his cabinet has cometh to realize– “What goes afar in negligence, pays abound dearly”.
