Mishap kills five in Madhya Pradesh

Seoni: Five persons were killed, while 15 injured when their vehicle collided with a passenger bus near Khairitek village in the district, police said on Thursday.

“The incident occurred last night when the utility vehicle (Tata Magic), carrying the marriage revelers to Khwasa, collided with the bus which was going towards Nagpur,” Kotwali police station in-charge Navin Jain told reporters.

The deceased are identified as Aman Thakre (14), Ramesh Baghel (43), Manoj Kashyap (45), Ajay Patel (45) and Ramesh Lokhande (40), he said, adding that while four of them died on the spot another one succumbed to his injuries in district hospital.

Condition of five persons among the injured is serious and they were referred to Nagpur for treatment.

An ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5000 was provided to the kin of the deceased on the directives of district collector Bharat Yadav while a sum of Rs 1000 was given to each of the injured by Red Cross Society.

Driver of the bus was arrested and a case was registered against him.
