Miners rescued after nearly 14 hours

Burdwan: The 45 workers who were stuck inside a colliery in Pandaveswar of Burdwan area since 2:45 am on Thursday morning, has ultimately been rescued from Pit no. 2, where they were stuck.

According to the ECL authorities, “Rescue operations began a while back on the site and all the miners have been brought out.”

The Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) had sent food, water and medicines to the trapped miners inside the pit. Due to a technical problem, the trolly of the mine was not working properly which had left the workers trapped inside.

The ECL authorities had alleged that negligence on part of the workers had resulted in the in fault of the trolley but the workers had alleged that the broiler stopped working due to the non-maintenance by the ECL authorities.
