Militants Shot Dead Police Constable In J&K’s Kulgam


Srinagar: Militants on Wednesday shot dead a constable in Kulgam district of south Kashmir when he was on his way home, police said.

Gowhar Ahmad, posted in Shopian district, was shot near the Kanjikulla bridge in Kulgam, a police official said. The official said Ahmad was riding a motorcycle to his home in Yaripora area of Kulgam.

He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On Saturday, six policemen were injured in a scuffle with army personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The incident took place on Saturday at around 10.30 p.m when a few army personnel were returning from Amarnath Yatra. They were stopped at the Gund Police Station. Later an argument took place between the two sides over a checkpoint. The scuffle lead to minor injuries sustained by both army and police personnel.
