Militants Attack In J&K, 3 Soldiers Injured


Update: Two soldiers have been identified as Naik Madan Singh and Sepoy H Krishna and were injured in the firing by militants, who managed to escape from the spot, the official said.

He said the injured jawans were evacuated to Army’s 92 Base Hospital here for treatment.

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Thursday morning, police said.

Acting on specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in Shahgund village of Hajin area of the district, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, a police official said here.

He said as the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter.

The operation is still going on, the official said.

In another firing incident in Poonch district, one jawan was injured and is recuperating.
Army is probing whether the jawan was injured in sniper firing from across the LoC or speculative firing.
