Midsummer Nightmare In J&K, Unseasonal Snowfall Leaves Nomads Stranded

New Delhi: The weather in the country has gone for a toss. While high-altitude areas of Chenab valley in Jammu and Kashmir experienced unseasonal snowfall on Monday, there is also a warning for thunderstorm and squall in some states even as several other states are reeling under soaring mercury. Beside This Badrinath received fresh snowfall on Tuesday morning, 2 inches of snow covers the area. Hemkund received fresh snowfall too. Badrinath Yatra underway.

The unseasonal snowfall engulfed the region in wintry conditions, leaving hundreds of nomadic families, with their livestock, stranded. The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert forecasting that several parts of north India could witness thunderstorm and squall on Tuesday with winds gusting up to 50-70 kmph.

The IMD issued an amber-coloured alert, indicating severe weather, for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal.
